Press Release Body:
As per the latest report published by RNCOS on the South African tourism industry -
“South African Tourism Sector Analysis” – in 2006, South
Africa’s tourism industry continued to see surge in its tourist inflow after
receiving a record 7.3 (approx) Million international tourists in 2005, keeping in
pace with other main African markets like Kenya, Morocco and Seychelles. Total
tourist arrivals in the country jumped to around 8.3 Million in 2006, nearly 14.4%
up as compared to the same period in 2005, indicating that a new record is in the
making!

The report said that South Africa’s diverse landscapes and cultures, natural
beauty and the country’s excellent infrastructure, which appeals both domestic
as well as international tourists, are responsible for this increase in tourist
influx. More holidaymakers from Brazil, France and North America increased the
number of tourist arrivals in the country.

Moreover, the country is experiencing steady growth in the foreign tourist inflow
with only three years left to the FIFA World Cup in 2010 (South African is the host
country of 2010 FIFA World Cup). Marthinus van Schalkwyk, Tourism Minister, South
Africa, said that the country received 10% more visitors in the initial five months
of 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.

The report also said that the government is very positive regarding the 2010 FIFA
World Cup as the mega event will bring in financial benefits and improve South
Africa’s global profile. So the government is emphasizing on infrastructure
improvement of the country and to develop the infrastructure of various departments,
specifically transport, the government is spending huge sum of money - five to six
times more than the planned amount. The South African government also thinks that
the event will help in changing the opinion of people from foreign lands on Africa
and South Africa.

The report “South African Tourism Sector Analysis” examines various
aspects of the South African tourism industry, like influence of tourism on GDP,
types of tourism, hotel industry of the country, tourist arrivals (by continent and
country), domestic tourism, tourism expenditure, and length of stay (by domestic and
international tourists). The report also presents a rational future outlook of the
industry and the factors affecting it.

“South African Tourism Sector Analysis” is one of the many reports made
by RNCOS on tourism industry of many countries, including Egypt, India, China,
Sub-Sahara Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore.
